Eric J. Lane, Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Lane is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Maryland. He specializes in providing psychotherapy, psychological testing and psychosexual assessments for children and adolescents. Dr. Lane has provided outpatient psychotherapeutic services for children/adolescents and their families for 12 years. He has provided these services within the full continuum of mental health services available (i.e., outpatient, diagnostic center, therapeutic group home, inpatient psychiatric hospital and residential treatment centers).
Dr. Lane is experienced in providing clinical services for children from preschool age through young adulthood (18 to 25 years of age). The majority of the children he provides services for are between the ages of 10 and 16. Dr. Lane strongly believes that parents must be active participants in their children's care. A strong parent-training component is almost always a part of the child's treatment. This component usually involves teaching the parents sound behavioral interventions to improve the child's motivation for school, household compliance and social functioning. Efforts and interventions designed to improve communication and problem solving styles within the family are also utilized; parents are expected to attend and participate in each session.
Dr Lane is trained as a cognitive-behavioral clinician. Thus, Dr. Lane believes that people reduce their symptoms and improve their functioning by changing the way they normally think about certain situations. Additionally, he often recommends that clients and parents strategically change certain behavior patterns. Above all, Dr. Lane recognizes the importance and curative process of the therapeutic relationship. He approaches each and every child and family by first listening to them and learning their unique needs, with an open-mind, cultural sensitivity and belief that we all possess the capacity to live a more full, successful and satisfying life.
